Trading Wood may not be easy. His reputation for poor defensive effort and selfish offensive play, fair or not, is widespread at this point. 

If the Mavericks are desperate enough to get it done, they may need to absorb a bad contract in order to do so. Enter Duncan Robinson. The Heat may be desperate to get off of his deal. 

They could also use Wood. In fact, his defensive shortcomings would be masked alongside a versatile defensive big like Bam Adebayo. The Heat have a vacancy at the 4 that Wood could slot in and fill. 

Meanwhile, the Mavericks may or may not incorporate Robinson into their rotation.

Like Wood, he offers elite floor spacing that comes with defensive shortcomings. Still, the first-round pick is the real prize here.
