It’s not easy to admit that you made a mistake. At the same time, the ability to do so can be a valuable skill. NBA teams make mistakes like anybody else.
Sometimes, an acquisition makes some sense on paper but doesn’t work out in practice. Other times, the pros simply don’t outweigh the cons.
For example, it made some sense for the Dallas Mavericks to acquire Christian Wood this summer. This team needed the frontcourt spacing and a general offensive boost following the loss of Jalen Brunson.
So far, it’s looked like an honest mistake.
