Utah Jazz Receive: G Chris Duarte, G Buddy Hield, F/C Isaiah Jackson, 2023 FRP via BOS, 2023 FRP via CLE, 2024 FRP, 2026 FRP
Indiana Pacers Receive: G Donovan Mitchell

Even though the Indiana Pacers did not end up landing Deandre Ayton from the Phoenix Suns, trading for Donovan Mitchell this offseason still makes perfect sense.

Indiana has never been a team to full-on tank, and their current roster looks a bit too talented to land them at the top of the lottery odds for Victor Wembenyama anyways.

In this deal, they stay nearly equally young while taking a significant step forward in terms of competitive talent. Donovan Mitchell would join Tyrese Haliburton to form a new star-studded backcourt in the Eastern Conference. Newly drafted wing Bennedict Mathurin and Myles Turner would give the Pacers one of the most talented and lethal young cores in the league.

The team will still likely be a year or two away from becoming true playoff threats even with Mitchell in tow, and the Indiana Pacers retain their own pick in 2023 as insurance for that fact.

The Jazz on the other hand turn one young superstar into two prospects with potential, an established veteran that they should be able to easily flip for more future assets, and four first-round picks to add to their already burgeoning war chest.
