Charlotte Hornets Receive: G Donovan Mitchell

The Charlotte Hornets have had inarguably one of the worst offseason in the league so far. Two of their in-house free agents, Miles Bridges and Montrezl Harrell, got themselves into off-court legal trouble and remain unsigned.

While Harrell was stuck with a drug charge and could still recover his career, Bridges plead guilty to an unforgivable domestic violence charge and hopefully has played his last game in the NBA.

While the roster was probably the last thing the Hornets were thinking about this summer, these incidents have left Charlotte with a massive drop off in talent compared to last year’s squad that made the Play-In Tournament. Likely to lose two rotation players from last season, the only addition that Charlotte has made so far were acquired in the draft, Mark Williams and Bryce McGowens.

This trade offers the Hornets a way to infuse talent back into their roster without sacrificing any real key parts. Donovan Mitchell joins LaMelo Ball, P.J. Washington, Williams, and McGowens to form a new young core in the league that’s ready-made to compete in the Eastern Conference right away.

The Jazz grab two high-ceiling young players who have struggled to find their niche in the league so far in James Bouknight and Kai Jones. They also add three first-rounders to their arsenal. Terry Rozier should be easily flipped down the road for additional assets.
