Zach LaVine

Coming into the 2021-22 season, it seemed like a shoo-in that Zach LaVine would be returning to the Chicago Bulls. So much so, many people didn’t even include LaVine in discussions about free agency because it was so unlikely that he would even consider leaving the Windy City.

But, things have seemed to change since then. It is no longer a done deal that LaVine remains with the Bulls and he is expected to fully test out the market. Chicago made the postseason this year after making some big upgrades to the lineup, but those upgrades could be playing a part in LaVine’s wandering eye.

One of the players that helped Chicago get back on track is DeMar DeRozan. He had an excellent season, but toward the end of the season, he began taking over as the go-to player offensively for the Bulls. In clutch situations, he would get the ball in isolations at the mid-post and go to work.

That relegated Zach LaVine to standing in the corner more often than he would have liked as a complementary player. While there is no reported rift between DeRozan and LaVine, his usage is something that has certainly led to exploring other options.
