Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F Josh Okogie, MIN 2023 1st Round Pick (Swap, More Favorable to ATL)
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G/F Cam Reddish
Now in his third NBA season, Cam Reddish is still in the early developmental part of his NBA playing career, but he has proven to be an effective player for the Hawks.
We saw flashes of his offensive prowess last season being a “spark” off-the-bench and he has continued to play well this season, averaging 12.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and shooting a career-highs of 41.3% from the floor and 39.2% from three-point range.
As a team, the Minnesota Timberwolves are shooting 34.0% from three-point range (23rd in the league) and 32.5 bench points per game (20th in the league). Outside of their “Big 3,” it is very clear to see that the Timberwolves need more scoring talents, hence why Cam Reddish could interest them.
He is young, shows promise as a scorer not only out on the perimeter, but as a driver who can get to the rim, and he is an above-average defender because of his 7’1” wingspan.

While Josh Okogie is probably a better defender than that of Reddish, he is not that much better and Reddish has the upper-hand by a lot on the offensive-end of the floor.
For Atlanta, giving up Reddish is something that seems like it needs to be done.
His contract is close to expiring and the Hawks are not going to be able to re-sign both he and De’Andre Hunter, which is why taking Josh Okogie in the final year of his contract could be worthwhile.

With Hunter out, Okogie could be a very valuable defensive piece for this team and even with Hunter healthy, the young wing could still be an effective defensive-stopper off-the-bench. Plus, Atlanta would get the option to swap picks with the Timberwolves in 2023.
Other teams in the league will surely show interest in Cam Reddish, so the Hawks do not necessarily need to rush a decision, but there are aspects of this trade that could make this deal worthwhile.
