Does this trade make sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves?

Trading Josh Okogie is a move that does make sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season, but only if they are getting an upgrade on the wing. Cam Reddish would certainly be an upgrade and they would not be losing a draft pick in this trade scenario.

They may wind up moving down from where their actual draft position is, but Minnesota would still have a first-round draft pick in 2023, as well as have a young wing that they can invest in for bench depth.

Cam Reddish has certainly proven that he can be a reliable scorer with the ball in his hands, but the most important aspect of his game that is continuing to develop is his play off-the-ball. His impact defensively is important, but moving on offense without the ball in his hands and being more of a catch-and-shoot three-point threat is what would make him a valuable asset in Minnesota.

Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards are the stars of this Timberwolves’ franchise. Cam Reddish would get his opportunities, but he would have to be alright with the idea that he is playing off of these three guys and is nothing more than a role player.

He could really thrive in this role with the Timberwolves and be a player that helps their bench improve on both ends of the floor, but Reddish’s mentality may not be there. There have been questions about how he perceives himself in this league and the young wing’s ego may get in the way of things.

From a talent perspective, this trade makes sense, but the Timberwolves would have to make sure that they are on the same page with Reddish about his role there not just this season, but next season and moving forward.
