Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
If this is the best deal that is on the table for the Atlanta Hawks pertaining to Cam Reddish, they are much better off keeping him and looking to leverage him at the NBA trade deadline next season.
The Hawks definitely need to make some moves at the NBA trade deadline this season, but they need to find ways to upgrade their roster instead of making a lateral or backwards move.
Cam Reddish is a better scorer than that of Josh Okogie and he is not too far off defensively, so the only thing Atlanta has to gain here is freeing up minimal cap space this offseason when Okogie’s contract expires and then gambling that they will be able to move up in the 2023 NBA Draft with this pick swap.
Bringing in Josh Okogie is not a bad addition whatsoever, but he does not make more of a difference for this Hawks team than that of Cam Reddish. From a talent perspective, this is a lateral move that may make Atlanta a little better defensively, but at the cost of some offensive production.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Teams Inquiring About Cam Reddish Trade — What Hawks Would Want
At full-strength, the Hawks are going to be just fine, but the question for them is when will they be healthy? Bogdan Bogdanovic’s ankle injury is definitely a cause for concern since it could flare up at any time and there is no timetable for De’Andre Hunter’s potential return from wrist surgery yet.
Trae Young and John Collins are the only two primary scorers for this team, which is why adding another high-level offensive threat at the expense of Cam Reddish makes the most sense.
Whether it is someone like Caris LeVert, Terrence Ross or someone else, the Hawks would be much better off trying to trade Reddish for a roster upgrade instead of a draft pick.
