San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has taken the NBA by storm. He provides nightly highlights with his performances, as he is accomplishing things normally only seen playing the NBA 2K video game.

On Wednesday, he had another epic duel with two-time MVP Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets. Clips of their matchup have gone viral, as they were going at each other all evening to the excitement of basketball fans everywhere.

Ultimately, it was Jokic and the Nuggets who came out ahead, winning 110-105 in a game that was more competitive than many people likely thought it would be. Jokic finished the game with 42 points, 16 rebounds, six assists, one steal and two blocks.

He had several highlight-worthy plays while going against Wembanyama, but the rookie made sure to get some himself. The NBA’s leading shot blocker got Jokic a few times on Tuesday night, nearly recording a quadruple-double.

NBA NEWS & SCORES: Victor Wembanyama & San Antonio Spurs Updates

Wembanyama finished the game with 23 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists and nine blocks. It was a very impressive performance, albeit an inefficient shooting one, for Wembanyama against one of the best players in the NBA.

But, not everyone was left impressed by the performance. During a segment on ESPN’s First Take, Chris Russo ripped into Wembanyama. Russo believes that Wembanyama is vastly overrated based on how people talk about him and his production on the court.

This isn’t the first time that Russo has been critical of a player in the modern NBA, making callbacks to the old-school legends, and it likely won’t be the last. By most accounts, Wembanyama has outperformed even the wildest expectations he had on him as a rookie and is already a dominant player on both ends of the court.

Only scratching the surface of his potential, we haven’t seen him close to his final form yet. While it is early to compare him to legends in Russo’s opinion, the production he is providing, with a minutes cap, is in line with some of the greatest players in NBA history.
