Bad Trade Destination — New York Knicks
After a strong start to the 2021-22 season, the New York Knicks have fallen into a rut. The team appears primed to need a move at the NBA trade deadline to get back into gear.
While a move may be needed for the Knicks, it wouldn’t be the cleanest of fits for Jerami Grant. There isn’t much for playmaking talent and there’s positional overlap.
Grant made a substantial impact with the Detroit Pistons in his breakout campaign by playing the four spot and using all of the advantages that his combination of size, speed, and shooting ability bring to the table. Would he do the same on the Knicks?
It’s difficult for a defense to slow down a player with Grant’s intangibles playing in such a role. With the Knicks, sure, New York could benefit from sliding over Julius Randle to the five spot more often. However, there’d still be overlap if that wasn’t full-time.

Grant can play the three spot since he’s got all of the needed intangibles to do so. Doing so for the Knicks just wouldn’t be the role he’s best optimized in playing.
