Does this trade make sense for the Brooklyn Nets?
Building off of what has already been said, this trade does not make much sense for the Brooklyn Nets Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant to be both their now and future. The only context that would make sense is a sign-and-trade next offseason if Harden were choosing to depart for the Philadelphia 76ers.
At full-strength, this team is going to be a championship contender every single year in this league and even without Kyrie, they are still one of the better teams in the league.
Brooklyn currently ranks 14th in the league in offensive rating and 7th in the league in defensive rating, making them a much more balanced team than many imagine them to be.
Patty Mills, LaMarcus Aldridge, Bruce Brown and Joe Harris have all really stepped up in Kyrie’s absence this year and as this team continues to play together, they are only going to get better.

Taking away James Harden screws up their rotations in the backcourt and while he would be replaced with Ben Simmons, it is a big “if” for “if” he would even fit in with this group.
Simmons’ style of play definitely does not mesh well with that of Durant based off of first glance and now in addition to being this team’s primary scorer, KD will now have to be the primary facilitator.

Putting more weight on the shoulders of a guy who recently tore his Achilles is not a good idea, even if it’s the great Kevin Durant! There is no reason that the Nets should want to trade James Harden right now, especially for the mental mess of Ben Simmons.
