The Houston Rockets have a lot of needs. Anyone who’s watched this team over recent NBA seasons knows that. Of course, the Rockets have been tanking, but they’ll be looking to take a step forward next season.
They’ll have plenty of needs to fulfill to do so. Some will suggest that they need defense the most. Fair enough. The Rockets have badly struggled on that end of the floor over the last several years.
On the other hand, some might argue that what they need most is a point guard. That’s also fair. Kevin Porter Jr. is immensely talented, but he doesn’t appear to have the court awareness to be a lead ball-handler.
It’s clear, at this point, that Porter is probably not the point of the Rockets’ future. There seemed to consistently be a conflict in style between his play and that of Alperen Sengun.
Now, how do they go about getting their lead initiator? There is a wide range of possible outcomes as far as the Rockets’ upcoming offseason is concerned. Could they pursue a potential trade for a superstar as an option?
By contrast, Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks certainly does.
