Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
Realistically, the Charlotte Hornets have the most to gain from this deal. They were widely expected to pursue a center this summer.
Granted, they did draft one. Still, if the Hornets are looking to take a step forward in 2022-23, leaning on a rookie may not be the best method. There’s little question that Myles Turner would be more useful if the Hornets have win-now ambitions.
Which, to be clear, they probably should. As constructed, the Hornets run the risk of landing on the mediocrity treadmill. If they wish to convince LaMelo Ball to stand pat in a small market long term, they’ll need to do better.
Landing Turner would help them do so. He’s one of the best rim-protecting big men in the NBA, and one of the best floor spacing bigs in the league as well. All things considered, he’s everything the Charlotte Hornets need.

If they can land him for Kelly Oubre Jr. and a first-round pick, they shouldn’t hesitate to do so.
