Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
Quickly: name an NBA franchise more frustrated than the New York Knicks’. We’ll wait.
We’ll stop waiting now. Somebody has to write this article. The Knicks have been one of the least successful teams in the NBA over the last 20 or so years. Given that they play in the league’s biggest market, that’s particularly infuriating.
A fearsome Knicks team is long overdue. Following this deal, they’ll have one. A backcourt tandem of Donovan Mitchell and Jalen Brunson would rank among the most talented in the NBA. Meanwhile, a bounceback season from Julius Randle could vault this group into fringe contention.
After all, they’ll still have quality supporting pieces to spare. Mitchell Robinson and Isaiah Hartenstein make a strong platoon at the center position. Derrick Rose will be one of the best backup point guards in the league. Alec Burks and Obi Toppin are ready-made contributors.
