Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
The Utah Jazz’s interest in this deal will rest on their assessment of RJ Barrett, and little else.
If they see a potential star in the 22-year-old, they’ll pounce on this exchange. After all, they’re still receiving four first-round picks in this deal. All told, that’s an impressive haul.
It’s also worth considering that they already received a bounty of draft capital in the Gobert trade. Following both of these deals, the Jazz will be well-positioned for their rebuild.
On the other hand, Barrett’s future star status is a little ambiguous. He’s good, but he doesn’t necessarily rank among the league’s top young players. He has star upside, but nothing is guaranteed.
