Utah Jazz Receive: G/F RJ Barrett, G/F Evan Fournier, 2023 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2024 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2025 First-Round Pick (Swap – NYK), 2027 First-Round Pick (NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
It’s trade season in the National Basketball Association. The market is starting to take shape, and teams will actively be looking at other deals as precedent.
The Utah Jazz were already involved in a deal that set one. They received three quality players, three unprotected first-round picks, and a pick swap in exchange for star big man Rudy Gobert.
On a surface level, that sounds like more than the Jazz are getting for Mitchell here. Well, trade value is in the eye of the beholder. It’s fair to say that RJ Barrett has more upside than any player the Jazz received in exchange for Gobert.
Draft capital is the dominant currency in today’s league, but young players with star upside still count.
