3. Killian Hayes

The Detroit Pistons are bringing numerous players from their regular-season rotation to the Las Vegas Summer League. For a rebuilding team, that isn’t too surprising, as the Pistons have one of the youngest teams in the league.

While we may not see some of the guys out there every game, one veteran we could see get extensive playing time is Killian Hayes. Hayes was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and is actually the longest-tenured player on the team. But, he has yet to live up to the expectations of someone drafted that high.

Hayes needs the ball in his hands to find any success as his skill set isn’t conducive to playing off the ball. He has struggled with his jump shot, which makes him a poor fit alongside Cade Cunningham.

A role off the bench is likely in his future, especially with Jaden Ivey joining the roster as the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. If he doesn’t want to fall out of the rotation altogether, he has to start showing some improvement across the board.

Summer League is a low-pressure environment for him to start producing some numbers and gaining confidence. He will be turning only 21 years old in a few weeks, but the Pistons’ rebuild could leave him behind if he doesn’t start showing that he can do something at an NBA level to garner playing time.
