2. Mo Bamba

The center position could undergo some drastic changes this offseason. Starter Mitchell Robinson is entering free agency and the two sides don’t seem to be close to agreeing to a new contract.

If Robinson moves on, the team could look to fill his roster spot. Nerlens Noel remains on the roster and played well during the 2020-21 season, but has been mentioned as a salary filler in mock trades. Jericho Sims played well when thrust into duty last season as a rookie and should have the backup center spot locked down, at the very least.

If New York wants to modernize their roster a little more, they could look into signing a player such as Mo Bamba. Bamba’s time with the Orlando Magic looks like it will be coming to an end as they landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and are expected to add another big man to the mix.

Mo Bamba showed the unicorn skill set that teams love from big men, as he is a stout rim protector and vastly improved 3-point shooter. That kind of spacing would help open things up for the Knicks offensively, as they were easy to defend in some scenarios with big men that weren’t a threat outside of the dunk spot.

Mo Bamba would bring a lot of similarities to the court as Robinson with his rebounding and shot-blocking, but his 3-point shooting sets him apart. He improved a ton last season and as a Harlem native would probably enjoy the homecoming.
