There has been a lot of chatter about the New York Knicks looking to upgrade their backcourt this NBA offseason. The team desperately needs a point guard and they have already been linked to a few as they will aggressively pursue a new one.
Last season, the team thought they were set with Kemba Walker and Derrick Rose leading the show. By the end of the season, it was Alec Burks and Immanuel Quickley that had done most of the heavy lifting at the point guard position.
Looking to avoid that happening again, the New York Knicks will assuredly dip back into the market for a new lead man. While some fans are holding out hope that Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz could be the answer, don’t hold your breath.
According to recent updates shared by Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, acquiring Mitchell doesn’t seem like it will be in the cards.
“League sources regularly mention New York’s main offseason focus is to improve at the point guard position, but acquiring Utah’s other All-Star, Donovan Mitchell, remains highly unlikely.”

The Jazz is expected to explore all avenues when it comes to shaking up their roster. Something has to give this offseason as they had another disappointing exit from the postseason. Despite not having Luka Doncic in the lineup for the first three games, the Dallas Mavericks opened up a 2-1 lead in their first-round series.
While the Knicks have been linked to Mitchell, it doesn’t sound like they will be able to pull off a deal. The Miami Heat have been mentioned as a possible landing spot for the New York native, as they can build a trade around Tyler Herro and first-round draft picks.

The New York Knicks have a lot of good, young talent to build an intriguing package around and an extra first-round pick via the Dallas Mavericks in 2023. But, unlikely the Miami Heat, are not built to contend next season, which likely plays a part in being an unlikely landing spot for Mitchell.
