NBA All-Star Weekend Could Have Star-Studded 3-Point Shootout

For a long time, the marquee even during NBA All-Star Weekend was the Dunk Contest. But, that contest has fallen off in recent years in large part because it lacks star power when it comes to contestants partaking.

One event that isn’t lacking for star power and has become the biggest show of the weekend is the 3-point contest. Several NBA All-Stars took part in the event this year, with Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard coming away victorious for the second straight year.

But, this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend included a second 3-point contest. Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry faced off in a one-on-one competition with WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty.

It was a highly anticipated matchup between the greatest shooter the NBA has ever seen and arguably the greatest shooter currently in the NBA. Now, the league is looking to capitalize on that, as the event could be even bigger in 2025.

NBA NEWS & SCORES: Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Sabrina Ionescu, Caitlin Clark, Golden State Warriors Updates

NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium made an appearance on Run It Back on FanDuel TV and provided an interesting note about the shooting competition for the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend. Curry and Ionescu are expected to be back, with Klay Thompson and Iowa star and projected No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Caitlin Clark, joining the fun.

“At this point Stephen Curry versus Sabrina Ionescu is very likely for next year…I’m told with Caitlin Clark and potentially Klay Thompson to make it 2v2,” Charania said while speaking to Michele Beadle and former NBA players Chandler Parsons and Lou Williams.

Getting the WNBA involved and expanding their brand during NBA All-Star Weekend is a great idea. Ionescu and Clark are stars in their own rights and watching them compete against the Splash Brothers would be a lot of fun for basketball fans.
