Despite entering the year as a finals contender, things have not gone as planned for the Los Angeles Lakers. Between injuries and questionable personnel fits, they struggled greatly throughout the course of the regular season. Currently, the Lakers sit in 11th place in the Western Conference with a record of 31-47.
While LA still has a chance to sneak into the play-in tournament, it’s time for them to start thinking ahead. Even if they did manage to secure a playoff spot, their chances of making it through a stacked Western Conference are slim.
Even with Anthony Davis returning from injury, the Lakers are in no position to compete with the likes of the Phoenix Suns or Memphis Grizzlies.
Changes need to be made if LA wants to get back into the realm of contention. Despite getting up there in age, LeBron James proved this season that he still has something left in the tank. In 37-year-old, he might come away with his first scoring title since 2007-08.
