Making The Case For Trading Jerami Grant

The Pistons’ front-office was split at the trade deadline in regards to potentially trading Jerami Grant and while they did not pull the trigger on a deal this season, it would make a lot of sense for them to explore a trade involving Grant ahead of the 2022 NBA Draft. 

Not only could they add to their draft capital by moving Grant, but the Pistons are in a situation where they are ready to give Cade Cunningham the “keys to the franchise”. 

Jerami Grant has been a great player in Detroit, but he is nothing more than a ‘stepping stone” player for them, as they do not need him to be the center of attention anymore. 

Keeping Grant as a secondary scorer next to Cade Cunningham is advantageous, but Jerami Grant wants to be a focal point for a team in this league and entering the final year of his contract, the veteran forward could explore opportunities elsewhere following the 2022-23 season.

Seeing as they are still rebuilding, the Pistons might as well get something for Jerami Grant, which is why trading him makes the most sense. 

Ahead of the trade deadline, several contending teams were showing high interest in Jerami Grant and this interest is expected to carry over to the offseason. 

Getting one or two first-round picks and a young talent for Grant would be a big win for Detroit.
