Making The Case For Keeping Jerami Grant

Getting value for a player on an expiring contract is hard to argue against, as many teams’ front-offices do tend to think like this, especially in the offseason. 

However, if the Detroit Pistons were to trade Jerami Grant, they would be losing a ton of offensive production that they would have trouble replacing with the players currently on their roster. 

Cade Cunningham and Jerami Grant have played well on the court together and while he is in the final year of his contract, Grant has expressed a level of interest in signing another contract with the Pistons. 

Both he and GM Troy Weaver have a strong relationship with one another and Grant has been embraced by the Pistons’ fan base as their leader over the last two seasons.

Chemistry is being built right now for this young Pistons team and if they were to trade a key leader like Jerami Grant, they could really throw things off, resulting in Detroit adding a year or two onto their rebuilding process. 

The Pistons are going to need to make some big moves in the offseason, but trading Jerami Grant may not be a risk they are willing to take, especially since they are an offensively challenged team at times.
