Most Improved Player: Ja Morant – Memphis Grizzlies
Similar to the Sixth-Man of the Year award, the Most Improved Player race is starting to come to a close due to the play of Ja Morant. When he suffered a knee sprain in November, this award race became tight and Miles Bridges closed the gap a little bit, but Ja Morant has since grown his lead even further than it was before his injury.
On the year, the former Rookie of the Year is averaging 26.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 6.9 assists, 1.2 steals and is shooting 49.5% from the floor. Being named a first-time All-Star this season, Ja Morant checks off all the boxes for what voters look for in the league’s Most Improved Player and he has taken the Grizzlies from a fun play-in tournament team to a real title contending team in a year.
At 22-years-old, Ja Morant is already one of the best point guards in the entire league and he is turning himself into a box-office name. People are lining up now to see Morant play for the Grizzlies, very similar to how people go to games to see the likes of Steph Curry, LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Cementing himself as one of the greatest young players in the league, Ja Morant’s future is extremely bright and it would be shocking to see someone else win Most Improved Player this season.

The award has been given to a first-time All-Star four of the last five years and Morant ranks 6th in the league in scoring this season. We might as well just hand the Grizzlies’ point guard the award now because he is the NBA’s most improved player this season.
