Cleveland Cavaliers

The “feel good” story of the 2021-22 NBA season has been how well the Cleveland Cavaliers have played. While they are a very young and inexperienced group, the Cavaliers play with a contagious energy that makes them extremely fun to watch and extremely hard to root against.

However, the Basketball Gods seem to think differently because this team cannot catch a break with injuries. They have had plenty of guys in and out of the rotations due to minor injuries, but Collin Sexton suffered a season-ending meniscus injury in his left knee, followed by Ricky Rubio suffering an ACL injury in his left knee.

These are two catastrophic injuries to the Cavs backcourt and since Rubio was ruled out for the season, the Cavaliers have gone 1-3. While they are still 21-17 on the season, Cleveland has their backs up against the wall and are going to need to make some kind of a big move at the trade deadline if they are to remain afloat in the Eastern Conference.

In a season that offered so much promise to this franchise, it would be a shame to see their chances of doing something special get flushed down the drain, which is why the Cleveland Cavaliers need to and should want to trade for 76ers’ Ben Simmons.

They had interest in him dating back to this past offseason and while they may have trouble finding the right trade assets now, bringing in Simmons could make the Cleveland Cavaliers real playoff threats in the East.

Not only would they have Ben Simmons and Darius Garland in the backcourt, two All-Star-like, young talents, but the Cleveland Cavaliers would also round out their starting rotation with Lauri Markkanen, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.

This trade would give the Cavaliers four 7-footers in their starting rotation, making them almost impossible to guard. Just thinking about this, I do not see how you would not want to see this happen!

Simmons could step into a leadership role for this young Cavaliers team and help them reach their goals of making the playoffs this season, while also getting a fresh start himself. This is a win-win for Ben Simmons and the Cleveland Cavaliers, but all roads lead back to if Daryl Morey is happy.

Do the 76ers really want to bring back Isaac Okoro and Kevin Love, plus draft picks, in a deal for Ben Simmons? The answer is most definitely “no”, which is why Cleveland could have their hands tied behind their backs trying to make this deal.
