Does this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?

Whether or not they get first-round value for Marvin Bagley III like they would like to, the Sacramento Kings have to be willing to part ways with Bagley before the trade deadline this year.

He is not going to play for them and does not want to play for them, so they need to try and salvage some kind of value from the former No. 2 overall pick before he becomes a free agent.

After not extending his contract prior to the start of the new NBA season, Bagley will be a restricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season, giving the Kings a chance to possibly bring him back, but Bagley himself does not want to be in Sacramento anymore.

This Kings team definitely has some talented players in De’Aaron Fox, Richaun Holmes, Harrison Barnes, Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield and rookie Davion Mitchell, but their bench is missing key factors.

Taurean Prince and Jake Layman are not two names that are going to “wow” Sacramento fans and they are not players that will finally push the Kings into the playoff picture, but they are currently better than what they have.

Marvin Bagley just sitting on the bench and not playing is bringing zero value to this franchise right now, so at least they would know what they are getting with Prince and Layman.

Taurean Prince would play more often than that of Jake Layman, but the Kings need more depth at the forward positions right now and this trade certainly gives them more guys that they could utilize there.

Guys like De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton are only going to continue to get better in the Kings’ backcourt, but in order for this team to possibly win in the play-in tournament, they are going to need some key bench guys they can rely on.

It is not the best deal that they could possibly get this season for Marvin Bagley III, but two bench talents and a first-round pick in 2022 is definitely worthwhile for the Kings since Bagley is currently sidelined and not playing at all.
