Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
At some point during the 2021-22 season, the Dallas Mavericks are going to be looking to make a move to add a little bit more scoring talent to their team, hence why a guy like Jeremy Lamb could be of interest to them for their bench depth.
Adding more three-point shooters was a point of emphasis for the Mavericks this past offseason, as they added Sterling Brown and Reggie Bullock, but Jeremy Lamb could also fit into this category. For his career, Lamb has shot 34.4% from three-point range and he shot a career-high 40.6% from deep last season in Indiana.
While he is still trying to get his legs back after tearing his ACL in 2020, the Dallas Mavericks could use another experienced veteran on their roster and they can definitely afford to bring in the Pacers’ wing due to a trade exception they have.
When the Dallas Mavericks traded Josh Richardson to the Boston Celtics this offseason, they created a $10.8M TPE for themselves, allowing them to absorb a contract in a trade up to this amount this season. Jeremy Lamb is set to make $10.5M in the final year of his contract this season, which is why this trade would make sense for them.

Giving up no real assets and adding a key bench talent who can play 15-20 minutes per game definitely makes sense for the Mavericks at almost no cost whatsoever. If they are to make it out of the first round of the playoffs, Dallas is going to need to find ways to add more versatile talents to their roster, and bringing in Jeremy Lamb is a good start.
