The Chicago Bulls still need to facilitate a sign-and-trade deal for Lauri Markkanen as he remains available as a restricted free agent. Among the teams who appear to be in the mix are the Dallas Mavericks.
Markkanen reportedly had his eyes on the Mavericks as a potential landing spot long before free agency had even begun. There is a strong case to be made that it would make a lot of sense.
The contract would not be as great with the Mavericks as what he could receive from other teams who have been linked to him as potential suitors in sign-and-trade scenarios. However, putting together some great basketball could be ideal to get back on track long-term.
From the perspective of the player, there is just nothing like being a catch-and-shoot player who gets to receive passes from a playmaker like Luka Doncic.

The Mavericks could reward Lauri Markkanen with a greater contract if he manages to succeed with the team and he has a greater chance to do with alongside Doncic above all else.
