Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are armed with plenty of assets that will enable them to make a big move this offseason should they choose to. Perhaps some of the team’s recently drafted prospects could be of interest? A trade for Ben Simmons would constitute a big move.

This is a deal that could probably be opened up into a three-way deal. Golden State’s best assets, James Wiseman and two lottery picks in 2021, don’t appeal too much to the 76ers, who have Joel Embiid entrenched in the middle and want to win now. So, the 76ers could get a third team involved, possibly one that can take on the contract of Andrew Wiggins as well, and net them a player that better fits what they want.

Adding Simmons to a Warriors core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green would be a lot for teams to handle. Defensively, they present plenty of challenges for opponents. Simmons and Green are arguably the two most versatile defenders in the NBA as they defend every position on the court.

Offensively, there would be some obstacles to overcome. Steve Kerr would have to figure out how to make things work with two non-shooting playmakers in Simmons and Green. Could Green be shipped out in a separate deal to fill out the roster with Simmons being able to provide everything he does and being six years younger?

Simmons would also give the Warriors a building block for the future once Curry, Thompson and Green are ready to ride into the sunset. With all three of those players being at least 31-years old this upcoming season, the Warriors have to begin preparing for life after them.
