The Magic decided to capitalize on the trade value of Nikola Vucevic prior to the NBA trade deadline back in March. Orlando did the same with Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier. However, why not take on a dynamic scorer if you can get an asset to do so? At the very least, he could take pressure off a rookie brought in from the 2021 NBA Draft for a few years.
In Walker’s five seasons with the Hornets, the offensive-minded point guard notched 20.4 points and 5.5 assists per game. He was also named to his first two All-Star games in each of his final two years with the team. He could fill that role once again, but this time, for the Magic.
As for the Magic, they are under a complete rebuild, and the team is hoping that Markelle Fultz is their long-term answer at point guard. However, Fultz is recovering from a torn ACL, and it remains to be seen if he’ll be a full-go to begin next season. Even if he is, having an experience point guard like Walker around to help guys like Fultz and R.J. Hampton wouldn’t be the worst idea.
