4. DeMar DeRozan – San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are having a better season than many people thought that they would. They are in first place in the Southwest Division with a 16-11 record, which is good enough for sixth place in the Western Conference. DeMar DeRozan has been a driving force behind the resurgence in San Antonio.
DeMar DeRozan is leading the Spurs with 19.8 points and 6.9 assists per game, while also chipping in 5.0 rebounds. He has sacrificed some scoring numbers to become more of a facilitator and it has paid off in a big way for San Antonio. This is the first time since 2013 that DeRozan isn’t averaging at least 20 points per game.
Given the injuries the Spurs have had throughout their roster, DeRozan has transformed into a small-ball power forward. That is where he has played 74 percent of his minutes this season, with the other 26 percent coming at small forward.
That kind of sacrifice, combined with DeMar DeRozan’s statistics and the Spurs’ success is usually enough to garner an NBA All-Star selection.
