Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Timberwolves

On the other side of this trade, the Timberwolves would be swinging for the fences and trying to compete for a championship. It has been a long time since they were viewed as an NBA Finals contender. That would be their status instantly if they acquired James Harden.

Sure, giving up D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards, Ricky Rubio, and three first-round picks is a hefty price to pay. But, just like the rest of the NBA, if there is a way to acquire Harden, you simply pay to get it done.

Harden and Karl-Anthony Towns would immediately become one of the NBA’s most lethal duos. They could very well end up being a threat to the Los Angeles Lakers in the West. Not only that, they would likely feel good about their chances to convince both Harden and Towns to stick around long-term.

With two superstars like Harden and Towns, the Timberwolves would be able to recruit other players to join them. Both players have connections around the league and free agents would view playing in Minnesota as a chance to win a ring.

Minnesota should be aggressive with their pursuit of a trade for Harden. It would change everything for them. This deal would put them back on the map and could bring an elusive championship to the Timberwolves.
