Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Rockets
First up, the Rockets need to find players who can help them stay competitive now while still being able to bring in a ton of draft capital. This trade would check both of those boxes.
D’Angelo Russell is a huge addition in this deal from the Timberwolves to pair with John Wall in the back-court. He averaged 23.1 points, 6.3 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game last season. In addition to those numbers, he shot 36.7 percent from the three-point line.
As for the rest of the deal, Anthony Edwards would be a very valuable addition for Houston. He has legitimate superstar potential for the future and could become the new starting shooting guard in no time. Ricky Rubio could be flipped for more draft assets.
The inclusion of three first-round picks is a must. That would give the Rockets the chance to package them in a trade or use them to bring in more young talent.
If the Rockets are indeed forced to trade James Harden, this is the kind of package they will be looking for. Bringing in players who can win now and future assets would be huge. Losing Harden would be a big blow, but Houston would still be a team to watch in the Western Conference with this trade.
