The 2024 NBA Playoffs have given some people the chance to see Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards for the first time. Despite being the best player on one of the best teams in the league throughout the season, Edwards’ stardom is one that the casual fan may not be aware of.

The No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft has improved steadily throughout his career. He has been named an All-Star in two straight seasons and has helped the Timberwolves get to the postseason for a third straight time.

With some of the older superstars nearing the end of their playing careers, there have been debates about who is next to take over the league. There are many people who believe that Edwards has the talent to become the next face of the NBA.

He is well on the way to becoming a traditional superstar. Edwards provides highlights on a nightly basis, has memorable clips during interviews and is now the leading force on a top team in the Western Conference.

On top of that, Edwards has the confidence to reach those incredible heights. During an interview on ESPN, he was not shy about expressing that confidence, making a bold prediction about where his career will be in a few years. Edwards believes that in a few years, he will be the best player in the NBA.

The Georgia product is certainly on the path to achieving that status. He averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. His shooting was efficient, as he made 46.1 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from 3-point range and 83.6 percent from the charity stripe. The overall shooting percentage and free throw percentage were both career highs.

Most importantly, Edwards is taking strides in becoming a legitimate two-way player. His defense is much improved, which has helped him elevate in the player rankings. He is no longer just an offensive force, but a player who can get the job done defensively as well.

In a star-studded matchup against the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, Edwards has been the best player on the court at times. Defeating a team that has Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal on it would be a nice feather in his cap as his career begins to take off.
