Bulls Finish Top 10 In Opponent’s Points Per Game
A lot of why the Chicago Bulls will improve as a defensive team has a lot to do with new head coach Billy Donovan as well. Last year with the Thunder; they finished as the 7th best team in terms of opponent’s points per game and were one of the best teams all season long in-terms of opponent field-goal percentage.
Last year, the Bulls were not that bad as a defensive team, as they ranked 14th in the league in opponent’s points per game and 12th in opponent’s three-point shooting percentage. Wendell Carter and Daniel Gafford have proven to be two of the Bulls better defensive players in the frontcourt and Zach LaVine has been improving as a defensive player on the wing.
The addition of Patrick Wiliams on the wing will also help make this Chicago Bulls team a better defensive team because of his ability to guard numerous positions. At Florida State last year, Williams guarded point guards, centers and everyone in-between! His 6’8” stature and nearly 7-foot wingspan allows him to guard almost every position at the NBA level and be a difference maker for the Bulls this upcoming season off-the-bench as a terrific defender.
When looking at the Bulls roster, outside of Zach LaVine, they do not have the firepower to keep up with some of the better scoring teams in the league, which is why defense will be so important to this team if they are to have any success during the 2020-21 NBA season. They were close to being a Top-10 defensive team last year and with basically the same roster, plus the additions of Billy Donovan at head coach and Patrick Williams on the wing, the Chicago Bulls will be one of the better defensive teams in the NBA this season.
