After firing head coach Jim Boylen at the conclusion of the 2019-20 NBA season, the Chicago Bulls quickly agreed to a deal with Billy Donovan, who was let go by the Oklahoma City Thunder after posting a 243-157 record in 5 seasons with the Thunder. Donovan is well known for the coaching job he did at the University of Florida, posting a 467-186 record in 19 years with the Gators, including back-to-back National Championships in 2006 and 2007.
Billy Donovan has been a great coach since joining the NBA in 2015 and has been instrumental in the development of a lot of young players for the Thunder. He has helped turn Jerami Grant, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Steven Adams into great players and intends to do the same with the youth on the Chicago Bulls.
While the Bulls have struggled over the years, posting three straight losing seasons with under 30-wins, they have been slowly putting together a solid group of young core players as they look to finally snap out of their long rebuild era that has clouded this franchise ever seen Michael Jordan decided to retire following their 1998 NBA Championship win.
Coby White, Lauri Markkanen, Wendell Carter Jr. and their leader, Zach LaVine, have shown a ton of promise for the direction this franchise is going and look to finally fix the Bulls losing ways. Chicago also drafted Patrick Williams, a solid two-way player who possess a lot of potential on the wing moving forward.
There are some questions about the future of some of the Bulls’ key players, but if this core of young players remains intact, this franchise could quickly become one of the better young teams in the league. They finally have a great head coach and with plenty of talent to work with, the Chicago Bulls may be able to make it back to the playoffs within the next two seasons.
With that being said, here are four bold predictions for the Chicago Bulls heading into the 2020-21 NBA season.
