Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Rockets
If the Rockets do end up trading James Harden, they need to be focusing on somewhat of a rebuild. That doesn’t mean tear everything down, but it does mean bringing in young talent that they can build around and draft picks.
This deal with the Magic checks both of those boxes. Aaron Gordon would be the focal point of this trade along with the four first-round picks. He has a lot of potential and could develop as a potential No. 1 option.
Back in the 2017-18 season as the top option for the Magic, Gordon averaged 17.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He is capable of a much larger offensive role than he had last season in Orlando.
With the Rockets, depending on what they do with Russell Westbrook, Gordon could come in and be the clear-cut No. 2 option. Adding both Evan Fournier and Mo Bamba would add two more talented pieces for Houston. Bamba could even become the long-term big man for the franchise.
Moving on from Harden will be an impossibly difficult decision for the Rockets to make. However, if he is hell-bent on leaving town, this trade could be something that makes a ton of sense.
