Spurs’ Level Of Interest In Trae Young Trade, Revealed

Trae Young, Spurs, Hawks, NBA Rumors

One of the most prevalent NBA rumors that are swirling around the league is the Atlanta Hawks looking to make a big trade this offseason. Their acquisition of Dejounte Murray has not panned out as well as they had hoped, which now has them considering another big move.

While Murray was involved in plenty of trade rumors of his own ahead of the deadline in February, NBA rumors have since shifted to Trae Young. Young has been the face of the Hawks since he was selected No. 5 overall and acquired in a draft day trade with the Dallas Mavericks.

While he has earned a spot in the NBA All-Star Game three times and has had some eye-popping statistics, the team hasn’t found as much success as they would have hoped. Outside of a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, the Hawks have won zero playoff series in his career.

There is certainly a chance that the Hawks opt to keep Murray and move Young during the 2024 NBA offseason. Young would probably land a stronger trade package than Murray, which would help the franchise reload after trading so many assets to land Murray from the San Antonio Spurs.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Trae Young, San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks Updates

Speaking of the Spurs, they have been one team linked as a possible suitor to trade for Young. However, according to Kurt Helin of NBC Sports, via NBA Central on X, the Spurs don’t see Young as a good fit around Victor Wembanyama.

“League sources have told NBC Sports not to bet on that happening, as San Antonio doesn’t see Young as a fit with Wembanyama going forward. The Spurs might be more interested in the Hawks’ Dejounte Murray if he is available.”

It would certainly be interesting to see the negotiations between the Spurs and Hawks to send Murray back to San Antonio. They certainly wouldn’t get back as much as they paid for him, as Atlanta originally sent three first-round picks to San Antonio.

A ball-dominant player who provides nothing on the defensive end, it will take a very specific fit to get the most out of Young. There are likely several teams in the NBA that would take a chance on him, but it is hard to imagine a franchise finding much success with him as the unquestioned No. 1 option on the team.
