The Denver Nuggets continued their streak against the Los Angeles Lakers with a thrilling 101-99 victory in Game 2, capped off by a dramatic buzzer-beater from Jamal Murray. Despite the Lakers holding a commanding 20-point lead at one stage and strong performances from D’Angelo Russell, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis, they couldn’t seal the win.

This loss marked the Lakers’ tenth consecutive defeat against the Nuggets, a fact not lost on former Nuggets coach George Karl.

Karl didn’t shy away from expressing his thoughts, taking to Twitter to throw some serious shade at the Lakers’ star big man, Anthony Davis.

“Nuggets fans, as you watch the final 2-3 games of this Lakers series, remember that the great Alex English wasn’t voted a top 75 NBA all-time player but Anthony Davis was.”

Known for his outspoken nature, Karl has previously criticized players like Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin, and J.R. Smith. His latest jab at Davis, however, seemed unnecessary and fueled by bias, given his history with the Nuggets.

Despite Karl’s remarks, Davis showcased his talent in Game 2, delivering an impressive performance with 32 points and 11 rebounds. While he slowed down towards the end, Murray’s game-winning shot was made over Davis’ outstretched arm, highlighting the intensity of the match.

Davis’ inclusion in the NBA’s Top 75 players sparked debate, but his career statistics speak volumes, averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds per game. Furthermore, he’s regarded as one of the premier defenders of his era.

Criticism from past generations towards the current crop of players is not uncommon, but it’s essential to appreciate the talents and contributions of each era without unnecessary negativity.

It will be interesting to see how Anthony Davis and the Lakers respond in Game 3 at home in Los Angeles.
