4. Charlotte Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets have been one of the NBA franchises that have struggled the most with making the right draft choices, as of late. In the 2019 NBA Draft, the Hornets used the No. 12 pick to take PJ Washington, one spot ahead of Tyler Herro.
The elite efficiency Herro posted in spot-up and off-screen sequences provide real dimensions to any half-court offense, as seen with the Heat. Meanwhile, there isn’t a particular area within the half-court where Washington has an outlook to reach such a level.
Obviously, both players fill different positions, so it’s not exactly a direct comparison. However, with Washington’s best attribute being his jump shooting, it’s fair to say the considerably more efficient shooter in Herro would have been a better draft choice.
It appears Herro has the potential to become the type of player the Hornets believed Malik Monk would be when they decided to draft him. These type of compounding miscalculations make it difficult for a non-playoff team to turn things around and take the next step.
