5. New York Knicks
After holding out hope to win the Zion Williamson sweepstakes, the New York Knicks landed the No. 3 pick. With both Williamson and Ja Morant off the board, the Knicks elected to take RJ Barrett.
It was a real struggle for Barrett to provide consistent offensive contributions for the Knicks. In fact, there wasn’t a single player who was less efficient than Barrett on a per-possession basis among all 90 players who logged at least 1,000 overall offensive possessions.
There were already real concerns about Barrett’s ability to provide a functional and sufficiently efficient scoring impact when he was coming out of Duke. It’s still early, but he has done very little to dispel those concerns and a breakthrough will be needed.
There is greater potential for Barrett on the defensive end compared to Herro, and that should not be taken into consideration. However, Herro is already posting such efficient results in key offensive areas while showcasing real potential as a shot creator and playmaker.
