One NBA writer is proposing that the Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards make a trade centered around Jonathan Isaac and Tyus Jones.

Dan Favale of Bleacher Report proposed that the Magic trade Isaac, Chuma Okeke and the Detroit Pistons’ 2026 second-round pick to the Wizards for Jones and Mike Muscala.

“Taking a chance on Isaac and Okeke won’t resonate with Washington if Jones can be used to secure a first-round pick,” Favale wrote. “Sussing out that package is difficult. The obvious team doesn’t exist. (Perhaps Boston, but the Wizards would be taking in Brogdon and then need to send out more.)

“Swinging for the fences, even if recklessly, is perfectly acceptable during the infancy of a reset. Isaac is a defensive eclipse, from the inside out, across four positions. Okeke hasn’t actualized his three-and-D ceiling, but there’s still time. He will be only 25 at the start of next season and has offered flickers of impact play at both ends from time to time.”

The Memphis Grizzlies traded Jones to the Wizards this summer. He’s one of the best point guards in the NBA. The Duke product appeared in 80 games for the Grizzlies last season. He averaged 10.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists while shooting 43.8% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc and 80.0% from the free-throw line.

Isaac, meanwhile, hasn’t been able to stay healthy for the past three years. He’s only played in 11 games since 2020. The big man averaged 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds last season for the Magic while shooting 41.5% overall, 40.0% from 3 and 55.6% from the free-throw line.

The Magic would win this trade Favale came up with since Jones is a really good player. Jones has career averages of 6.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Grizzlies. He’s the perfect pass-first point guard the Magic need for Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

As for Isaac, it’s possible a fresh start with the rebuilding Wizards could jumpstart his career.
