Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is focused on winning an NBA championship. Everyone knows that. However, could Embiid chase a ring with another team besides the Sixers? It’s possible.

During an interview with Maverick Carter at the Uninterrupted Film Festival, Embiid went viral for the following quote:

“I just want to win a championship, whatever it takes. I don’t know where that’s going to be, whether it’s in Philly or anywhere else,” Embiid said. “I just want to have a chance to accomplish that, I want to see what that feels like to win that first one, and then you can think about the next one. It’s not easy, it takes more than one two or three guys. Got to have good people around you, and myself, every single day I work hard to be at that level so I can push us to make it happen.

“Every single day that’s working toward that goal, that’s where my mindset has always been. MVP is just an added bonus.”

Embiid told Showtime’s Rachel Nichols that he hopes James Harden will be on the Sixers next season. Harden has opted into his 2023-24 player option with the Sixers and wants to get traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. However, Embiid is staying positive throughout the whole situation.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Joel Embiid & Philadelphia 76ers Updates

Embiid signed a four-year, $210 million maximum contract extension with the Sixers in August 2021. Philadelphia has never gotten past the second round of the playoffs in the Embiid era. Nick Nurse is the new head coach for the Sixers. He replaced Doc Rivers.

The New York Knicks have loomed as the leading suitor for Embiid if he requests a trade, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports. Since Knicks president Leon Rose used to be Embiid’s agent, some people believe New York would have an advantage in the Embiid trade sweepstakes if the Kansas product hit the trade block.

In 394 regular-season games with the Sixers, Embiid is averaging 27.2 points and 11.2 rebounds. He has made six All-Star teams, five All-NBA teams and three All-Defensive teams.
