In the wake of Damian Lillard requesting a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, one NBA writer is proposing that the Chicago Bulls acquire the seven-time All-Star.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed that the Bulls trade Lonzo Ball, Patrick Williams, Ayo Dosunmu, Dalen Terry, a 2024 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2029 first-round pick and two pick swaps to the Blazers for Lillard.

“How many defenses have answers for Lillard, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Vučević? Not enough to prevent this group from winning nightly races to 120-plus points,” Buckley wrote. “The Bulls would have a lot of defensive holes, but their offensive potency could overcome them.”

This is a rather bold trade proposal from Buckley because the Blazers would never do this trade. Ball is expected to miss the entire 2023-24 season after undergoing a cartilage transplant in his left knee in March and Williams, Dosunmu and Terry are all role players.

Portland is pursuing the sliding-scale superstar package of desirable draft picks and high-level young players for Lillard, who has demanded a trade to the Miami Heat.

It would certainly be fun to watch Lillard play with Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic. However, there is no chance Lillard ends up in Chicago. The future Hall of Famer only wants to play for the Heat. In fact, Lillard’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, has been reaching out to teams not named the Heat, telling them not to trade for his client.

Lillard was upset the Blazers didn’t trade the third overall pick in the 2023 draft for a star player. Portland drafted Scoot Henderson, who plays the same position as Lillard, with the third pick.
