The Dallas Mavericks have not ruled out a sign-and-trade deal involving Christian Wood, according to NBA insider Marc Stein. Wood is currently an unrestricted free agent and the Mavericks will not re-sign him.

“League sources say Dallas has not ruled out participating in a sign-and-trade deal that lands Christian Wood with a new team if it is presented with such a scenario,” Stein wrote.

Wood appeared in 67 games for the Mavericks last season. He averaged 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 51.5% from the field, 37.6% from beyond the arc and 77.2% from the free-throw line.

Wood has career averages of 14.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists with the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, New Orleans Pelicans, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets and Mavericks.

The Los Angeles Lakers are interested in Wood for their 14th roster spot, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic. The Lakers want to add another big man behind Anthony Davis and Jaxson Hayes. The team had interest in Dario Saric before he joined the Golden State Warriors.

The Miami Heat have also been linked to Wood, although the franchise is currently doing everything in its power to acquire Damian Lillard, who has requested a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers and only wants to play for the Heat.

It will be fascinating to see where Wood is playing next season. He’s a talented scorer and dunker who has All-Star potential if he’s engaged for 48 minutes. Wood averaged a career-high 21.0 points in 2020-21 with the Rockets.

The Mavericks have been busy this summer. They re-signed Kyrie Irving and Dwight Powell, acquired Grant Williams from the Boston Celtics and Richaun Holmes from the Sacramento Kings and signed Seth Curry and Dante Exum. The next step for the front office is to figure out the Wood situation.
