Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
By now, it feels certain that Jonathan Kuminga won’t thrive on the Golden State Warriors. Sure, the Warriors could blow up their core. We don’t see it happening. This team still has a hope of winning another NBA championship. Generally speaking, teams don’t abandon those hopes.
So, Kuminga is unlikely to carve out a larger role. It’s time for the Warriors to move on. Meanwhile, Kuzma would be a perfect addition. After all, he’s developed into one of the most well-rounded players in the league.
Kuzma can score in isolation, set teammates up, and defend. He’s a great cutter and general off-ball mover. This is a player who ought to thrive in Steve Kerr’s system.
In the NBA — or sports as a whole — championship contention windows typically coincide with the peak performance years of star players. Stephen Curry is in the later stage of his NBA career. Now is the time to focus purely on contending.
