Rebuilding an NBA team isn’t easy. Sometimes, it isn’t pretty. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have to be done. When a team has been stuck in the middle for a long time, they don’t have any other choice. They can try to keep their group together, but in all likelihood, they’re only delaying the inevitable.
The Washington Wizards seem to have finally recognized this. Bradley Beal is gone, and so is Kristaps Porzingis. Don’t be surprised if this team continues to blow up their roster this summer.
As constructed, their best remaining player is Kyle Kuzma. In all likelihood, he’ll be on a different team next season. Kuzma can turn down his player option and hit free agency.
The Wizards have consistently underperformed and have shown a failure to make significant progress in their pursuit of a championship. Choosing to rebuild is the only viable path. Washington needs to add some premier prospects to create a foundation for long-term success.
NBA TRADES, NEWS & RUMORS: Jonathan Kuminga, Washington Wizards & Golden State Warriors Updates
The Wizards may need to continue to focus on stacking up on draft picks through trades and by organically rebuilding. These draft assets can be used to select top prospects or packaged in trades to acquire established players who fit the team’s long-term vision.
Could the Wizards sign and trade him to the Warriors for Jonathan Kuminga instead?
