In the NBA, having draft capital gives you options. Meanwhile, optionality is one of the most valuable commodities in the league. 

Suppose you really like a target in the draft. Unfortunately, you’ve landed a pick that will be too late to select them. If you’ve got additional draft capital, you might be able to swing a deal to land your guy.
