Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
Let it be said that Harden is not quite the player he was during that run in Houston. Specifically, he seems to have lost some burst.
During these playoffs, Harden is not nearly as reliable of a finisher as he was during his prime. Should that matter to Miami?
Not necessarily. The Heat already have an alpha scorer in Butler. They could use an elite playmaker and floor spacer at the point guard position.
Harden is still those things. In all likelihood, he will be next year, too. If the Heat were able to make this sign and trade happen, they’d be serious title contenders next season.

It wouldn’t hurt the Heat to add a high-octane offensive player to take pressure off Butler, making it easier for the team to handle the most difficult matchups.
