Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
Let’s talk about Tyler Herro. He’s certainly a dynamic scorer. Herro’s ability to create shots for himself in half-court sets gives him star upside. With that said, this is not a perfect player.
Herro is a subpar defender. He’s also a bit of a black hole on offense. Herro is not inclined to set up teammates. He is more likely to call his own number.
With those flaws in mind, why not move him for an upgraded model? LaVine shares all of those traits. However, with vastly superior athleticism, he’s an even stronger half-court creator. This is a win-now upgrade for Miami.
If they make this move, they may not be underdogs at all next season. LaVine would bring a more dynamic version of what Herro offers. With the need to win on Jimmy Butler’s timeline, Miami would be maximizing it.

LaVine does come with injury risk considering he has experienced a few major leg injuries in his playing career, but regardless, the added potential he brings would make that worth considering at least.
